CDH1

Official Full Name
cadherin 1, type 1, E-cadherin (epithelial)

Overview
This gene is a classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily. The encoded protein is a calcium dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein comprised of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region and a highly conserved cytoplasmic tail. Mutations in this gene are correlated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid and ovarian cancer. Loss of function is thought to contribute to progression in cancer by increasing proliferation, invasion, and/or metastasis. The ectodomain of this protein mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells and the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization. Identified transcript variants arise from mutation at consensus splice sites. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. CDH1 is involved in mechanisms regulating cell-cell adhesions, mobility and proliferation of epithelial cells. Has a potent invasive suppressor role. It is a ligand for integrin alpha-E/beta-7. E-Cad/CTF2 promotes non-amyloidogenic degradation of Abeta precursors. Has a strong inhibitory effect on APP C99 and C83 production. -

CDH1 has several biochemical functions, for example, GTPase activating protein binding, ankyrin binding, beta-catenin binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by CDH1 itself. We selected most functions CDH1 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with CDH1. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

Write a reviewThis recombinant protein has a very short half-life and shows a very high clearance rate, which makes its biological activity more stable.
The protein was highly purified and was not doped with other proteins or impurities.
CDH1 has similar activity to the native protein and is able to perform the expected biological functions.
Q&As (6)
Ask a questionCDH1 gene mutations are usually passed on in an autosomal dominant manner, depending on the type and location of the mutation.
Carriers of CDH1 gene mutations should have gastroscopy, ultrasonography, and other related tests to monitor the development and progression of stomach cancer.
For people with mutations in the CDH1 gene, prophylactic total gastrectomy may reduce the risk of diffuse stomach cancer. There is currently no specific treatment to target CDH1 gene mutations.
CDH1 gene mutation is closely related to the occurrence of diffuse gastric cancer, which is a special subtype of gastric cancer with a high degree of invasion and malignancy.
The CDH1 gene encodes a protein called E-calcin that plays an important role in cell adhesion and tissue differentiation. Mutations in the CDH1 gene may affect these processes, resulting in abnormal cell adhesion and tissue differentiation.
CDH1 gene mutations may be associated with the development of a small number of breast cancers, because CDH1 also plays a role in regulating cell adhesion and tissue structure in breast tissue.
