ART1

  • Official Full Name

    ADP-ribosyltransferase 1

  • Overview

ADP-ribosyltransferase catalyzes the ADP-ribosylation of arginine residues in proteins. Mono-ADP-ribosylation is a posttranslational modification of proteins that is interfered with by a variety of bacterial toxins including cholera, pertussis, and heat-labile enterotoxins of E. coli. The amino acid sequence consists of predominantly hydrophobic N- and C-terminal regions, which is characteristic of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins. This gene was previously designated ART2.

ART1 has several biochemical functions, for example, NAD(P)+-protein-arginine ADP-ribosyltransferase activity, NAD+ ADP-ribosyltransferase activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by ART1 itself. We selected most functions ART1 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with ART1. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

Q&As (7)

Ask a question
How does ART1 carry out ADP-ribosylation? 10/10/2022

ART1 transfers ADP-ribose from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) to specific arginine residues on substrate proteins, modifying their structure and function.

Are there any known substrates that ART1 acts upon? 01/22/2020

ART1 predominantly ADP-ribosylates arginine residues on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), such as the P2Y purinergic receptor.

Are there any known natural inhibitors or regulators of ART1 activity? 07/31/2017

Some pathogens produce enzymes called ADP-ribosyltransferase toxins that can inhibit ART1 activity and evade the immune response.

In which tissues or organs is ART1 predominantly expressed? 07/29/2017

ART1 is primarily expressed in the testes, but it can also be found in other tissues such as the spleen, kidney, and liver.

Does ART1 have any non-enzymatic functions or interactions with other proteins? 01/07/2017

Aside from its enzymatic role in ADP-ribosylation, ART1 does not have any known non-enzymatic functions or specific protein interactions.

Are there any known diseases or disorders associated with mutations in the ART1 gene? 11/22/2016

Mutations in the ART1 gene have not been directly linked to specific diseases or disorders in humans so far.

Is the activity of ART1 influenced by any cofactors or regulators? 05/24/2016

The activity of ART1 is dependent on the presence of NAD+ as a substrate, and it can be modulated by other factors, including pH and the presence of certain ions.
