Official Full Name | angiotensin I converting enzyme |
Background | This gene encodes an enzyme involved in catalyzing the conversion of angiotensin I into a physiologically active peptide angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasopressor and aldosterone-stimulating peptide that controls blood pressure and fluid-electrolyte balance. This enzyme plays a key role in the renin-angiotensin system. Many studies have associated the presence or absence of a 287 bp Alu repeat element in this gene with the levels of circulating enzyme or cardiovascular pathophysiologies. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and two most abundant spliced variants encode the somatic form and the testicular form, respectively, that are equally active. ACE has several biochemical functions, for example, actin binding, bradykinin receptor binding, carboxypeptidase activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by ACE itself. We selected most functions ACE had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with ACE. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

ACE has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with ACE here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of ACE.
