|Official Full Name||carbonic anhydrase VIII|
|Background||The protein encoded by this gene was initially named CA-related protein because of sequence similarity to other known carbonic anhydrase genes. However, the gene product lacks carbonic anhydrase activity (i.e., the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide). The gene product continues to carry a carbonic anhydrase designation based on clear sequence identity to other members of the carbonic anhydrase gene family. The absence of CA8 gene transcription in the cerebellum of the lurcher mutant in mice with a neurologic defect suggests an important role for this acatalytic form.|

CA8 has several biochemical functions, for example, carbonate dehydratase activity, protein binding, zinc ion binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by CA8 itself. We selected most functions CA8 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with CA8. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

CA8 has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with CA8 here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of CA8.
