Cat. No. : | CA8-1388H |
Description : | CA8 wasinitially named CA-related protein because of sequence similarity to otherknown carbonic anhydrase genes. However, this protein lacks carbonicanhydrase activity (i.e., the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide). Itcontinues to carry a carbonic anhydrase designation based on clear sequenceidentity to other members of the carbonic anhydrase gene family. Defects inCA8 are the cause of cerebellar ataxia mental retardation and dysequilibriumsyndrome type 3 (CMARQ3). |
Form : | Liquid. 20mM Tris-HClbuffer (pH8.0) containing 20% glycerol, 1mM DTT. |
Molecular Weight : | 35.5 kDa(314aa), confirmed by MALDI-TOF (Molecular weight on SDS-PAGE will appearhigher). |
Purity : | > 90%by SDS - PAGE |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionCA8 interacts with IP3Rs, affecting calcium signaling in neurons.
Unlike enzymatically active isoforms, CA8 doesn't catalyze the hydration of CO2 but instead plays roles in neuronal signaling and function.
Mutations in CA8 have been linked to cerebellar ataxia, a movement disorder.
CA8 impacts calcium signaling in neurons, affecting neural communication and potentially influencing motor control.
Specific modifications, like phosphorylation, can be explored using mass spectrometry or targeted biochemical assays.
CA8 acts as a stabilizer for inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs) in neurons.
CA8 is mainly expressed in the cerebellum, particularly in Purkinje cells.
