SIRT5

Official Full Name sirtuin 5
Background Sirtuin family of proteins that is important in aging, metabolism and disease. SIRT5 is expressed in a variety of tissues. Two different isoform have been described. Isoform 1 is reported to be express in the mitochondria and cytoplasm while isoform 2 appears to be localized to the mitochondria only. SIRT5 has also been linked to many primate-specific functions. SIRT5 has recently been implicated as having a role in adaptation to fasting, caloric restriction and high protein diets.
Synonyms SIRT5; sirtuin 5; sirtuin (silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog) 5 (S. cerevisiae) , sirtuin (silent mating type information regulation 2, S.cerevisiae, homolog) 5; NAD-dependent lysine demalonylase and desuccinylase sirtuin-5, mitochondrial; sir2-like 5; sirtuin type 5; SIR2-like protein 5; NAD-dependent deacetylase sirtuin-5; silent mating type information regulation 2, S.cerevisiae, homolog 5; SIR2L5; FLJ36950

SIRT5 has several biochemical functions, for example, NOT NAD+ ADP-ribosyltransferase activity, NAD+ binding, protein-glutaryllysine deglutarylase activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by SIRT5 itself. We selected most functions SIRT5 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with SIRT5. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
