Description : | This antimicrobial gene is one of several CC cytokine genes clustered on the p-arm of chromosome 9. Cytokines are a family of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteins characterized by two adjacent cysteines. Similar to other chemokines the protein encoded by this gene inhibits hemopoiesis and stimulates chemotaxis. This protein is chemotactic in vitro for thymocytes and activated T cells, but not for B cells, macrophages, or neutrophils. The cytokine encoded by this gene may also play a role in mediating homing of lymphocytes to secondary lymphoid organs. It is a high affinity functional ligand for chemokine receptor 7 that is expressed on T and B lymphocytes and a known receptor for another member of the cytokine family (small inducible cytokine A19). |

Q&As (6)
Ask a questionThis has a complex relationship with other genes or proteins, and can interact with other genes or proteins to participate in a variety of biochemical reactions.
It can be used as a biomarker in medical treatment to help monitor disease progression and treatment efficacy. In addition, therapeutics targeting CCL21, such as targeted therapies or modulating its expression, are also being investigated.
CCL21 deficiency or aberrant expression may be associated with some autoimmune diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Abnormal levels of CCL21 may suggest autoimmune diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases, but they may also be associated with other diseases.
Studying the regulatory mechanism of CCL21 requires a combination of various experimental methods and techniques, such as gene knockout, transcriptome analysis, and protein-protein interactions.
Mutations in CCL21 can be detected and analyzed by methods such as whole-genome sequencing or target region sequencing to understand the impact of mutations on protein structure and function.
