Description : | The protein encoded by this gene is an intermediate filament-associated protein that aggregates keratin intermediate filaments in mammalian epidermis. It is initially synthesized as a polyprotein precursor, profilaggrin (consisting of multiple filaggrin units of 324 aa each), which is localized in keratohyalin granules, and is subsequently proteolytically processed into individual functional filaggrin molecules. Mutations in this gene are associated with ichthyosis vulgaris. |

Ask a questionThere are currently no drugs that directly target FLG protein, but there are some drugs that can affect the expression level and activity of FLG protein, such as some growth factors and cytokines.
For atopic dermatitis caused by FLG gene mutations, treatments for inflammation and itching, such as topical glucocorticoids, antihistamines, etc., can also be used for systemic treatments, such as immunosuppressants and biologics.
Mutations in the FLG protein can cause abnormal keratin fiber structure in keratinocytes, affecting the maturation and differentiation of the stratum corneum, resulting in symptoms such as dryness, scaling, and itching.
Gene sequencing technology can be used to detect FLG gene mutations in patients with atopic dermatitis, so as to provide a basis for diagnosis and treatment.
Patients with atopic dermatitis often have mutations in the FLG gene, which lead to impaired skin barrier function, which in turn causes symptoms such as skin inflammation and itching.
Treatment of skin diseases caused by FLG protein mutations includes topical moisturizers, keratin softeners, and anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as systemic treatments such as oral medications, biologics, etc.
