Description : AHSP(Alpha-hemoglobin stabilizing protein), also known as ERAF(Erythroid associated factor), is an erythroid-specific protein that acts as a chaperone to prevent the aggregation of α-hemoglobin during normal erythroid cell development. It specifically protects free α-hemoglobin from precipitation in live cells and in solution. This protein is downregulated in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). It is predicted to modulate pathological states of alpha-hemoglobin excess such as beta-thalassemia.
