| Description : |
The protein encoded by this gene converts UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronate, a key component in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, and heparan sulfate. These glycosaminoglycans are common constituents of the extracellular matrix and play roles in signal transduction, cell migration, and cancer growth and metastasis. The encoded protein is also involved in the detoxification of endogenous and exogenous compounds through the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase pathway. Mutations in this gene are associated with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. |
