Description : | Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is caused by a small circular RNA virus. It is the only member of the genus Deltaviridae. HDV is unusual because it can propagate only in the presence of another virus, the hepatitis B virus (HBV). There are two methods of HDV infection. Transmission occurs either via simultaneous infection with HBV or via infection of an individual previously infected with HBV. Both infections with HDV results in more severe complications compared to infection with HBV alone. |
