NKIRAS1, also knownas NF-kappa-B inhibitor-interacting Ras-like protein 1,belongs to the small GTPase superfamily. NKIRAS1 is atypical Ras-like protein that acts as apotent regulator of NF-kappa-B activity by preventing the degradation ofNF-kappa-B inhibitor beta (NFKBIB) by most signals, explaining why NFKBIB ismore resistant to degradation. It may act by blocking phosphorylation ofNFKBIB and mediating cytoplasmic retention of p65/RELA NF-kappa-B subunit. Itis unclear whether it acts as a GTPase. Both GTP- and GDP-bound forms blockphosphorylation of NFKBIB. |
