Description : Protein inhibitor of Cdk2 kinase. Wee1 is a protein tyrosine kinase that phosphorylates Cdc2 on Tyr15 and hence inactivates the CDK1 and CDK2, which facilitates in the negative regulation of entry of cells into mitosis. Increased level of wee1 stimulates Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) Vpr induced cell cycle arrest at G2/M transition followed by apoptosis.
Source : E. coli
Species : Rat
Tag : GST
Form : Solution in 50 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, 1 mM EDTA, 1 mM DTT, 10% Glycerol
Molecular Mass : ~110 kDa
Unit Definition : One unit of Wee 1 activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that produces 90% inhibition of the activity of 10 units of CDK2. One unit of CDK2 will transfer 1 pmol of phosphate to histone H1 per minute at pH 7.2 and 30 centigrade.
Applications : Wee1, active from rat may be used to study apoptotic signaling.
Storage : Recombinant rat Wee 1 is stable for at least six months when stored at -70 centigrade. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Do not store in a frost-free freezer.
Gene Name : Wee1 wee 1 homolog (S. pombe) [ Rattus norvegicus ]
Official Symbol : Wee1
Synonyms : WEE1; wee 1 homolog (S. pombe); wee1-like protein kinase; wee1A kinase; wee1 tyrosine kinase; MGC105683;
Gene ID : 308937
mRNA Refseq : NM_001012742
Protein Refseq : NP_001012760

It plays a role in DNA damage response by delaying cell cycle progression to allow DNA repair.

What is the impact of altered WEE1 activity on cancer development? 09/15/2022

Altered WEE1 activity is associated with the progression of various cancers.

What potential therapeutic applications arise from targeting WEE1 in cancer treatment? 02/11/2022

Targeting WEE1 in cancer therapy could exploit its role in cell cycle regulation to inhibit tumor growth.

How do genetic variations in WEE1 affect cell division? 10/07/2020

Genetic mutations in WEE1 can lead to uncontrolled cell division and genomic instability.

What role does WEE1 play in checkpoint regulation? 11/24/2018

WEE1 is critical in checkpoint regulation, ensuring cells do not divide with damaged DNA.

How does WEE1 interact with other cell cycle proteins? 04/08/2018

WEE1 works in conjunction with other cell cycle proteins to regulate the timing of cell division.

What is the primary role of WEE1 in cell cycle control? 06/22/2017

WEE1 is a kinase that inhibits cell cycle progression, particularly at the G2/M checkpoint.
