Species : |
S.aureus |
Source : |
S. aureus |
Description : |
Bacterial hemolysins are exotoxins that attack blood cell membranes and cause cell rupture. Beta-hemolysin is a phospholipase C with specific activity toward sphingomyelins. Has a high specificity for sphingomyelin, hydrolyzes lysophosphatidylcholine at a much lower rate, but has no activity towards phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, or phosphatidylserine. |
Bio-activity : |
Specific activity: 100-300 U/mg protein. One unit will hydrolyze 1 μmol of TNPAL-sphingomyelin per minute at pH 7.4 and 37 centigrade. |
Applications : |
May be used exogenously to initiate the sphingomyelin signaling pathway. Has very little activity on phosphatidylcholine. |
Storage : |
At +4 centigrade |
Storage Buffer : |
Supplied in 50% glycerol/0.25 M phosphate buffer. |
