• Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a potent growth promoting cytokine. This cytokine is capable of supporting the proliferation of a broad range of hematopoietic cell types. It is involved in a variety of cell activities such as cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. This cytokine has been shown to also possess neurotrophic activity, and it may be associated with neurologic disorders.
• Bio-activity: Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF-1 human erythroleukemic cells. The ED50 for this effect is 0.02-0.1 ng/mL.
  The specific activity of recombinant human IL-3 is >1.7 x 106 IU/mg, which is calibrated against the human IL-3 WHO International Standard.
