Description : C-type lectin domain family 7 member A, also known as Dendritic cellassociated C-type lectin 1, Dectin-1, Beta-glucan receptor, C-type lectin superfamily member 12, BGR, CLECSF12, and CLEC7A, is a single-pass type I I membrane protein which contains one C-type lectin domain. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) belongs to the large family of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) which recognize conserved pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is highly expressed in peripheral blood leukocytes and dendritic cells. It is also detected in spleen, bone marrow, lung, muscle, stomach and placenta. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is a pattern-recognition receptor that predominantly recognizes beta-glucans from fungi, plants and bacteria. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is implicated in immunological defenses against pathogens that have betaglucans. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) was identified as the most important receptor for beta-glucan. Recognition of beta-glucan by CLEC7A (Dectin-1) triggers effective immune response, including phagocytosis and proinflammatory factor production, to eliminate infecting fungi. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is also involved in the adaptive immune response as well as autoimmune diseases and immune tolerance. CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is a small C-type lectin receptor for fungal cell wall beta-glucan. Its homologues in some species, including mouse and human. The sequence of mouse CLEC7A (Dectin-1) is found to be highly homologous to that of the rat. It possesses essential motifs for the recognition of betaglucan and signal transduction. Mouse CLEC7A (Dectin-1) plays essential roles in immune responses against fungi.
