||Follistatin (FST) is a glycosylated single-chain protein. It specifically inhibits the secretion of FSH from the pituitary. Follistatin/activin-binding protein binds to heparan sulfate side chains of proteoglycans on the granulosa cell surface to regulate the various actions of activin. Follistatin regulates a variety of biological functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Follistatin plays a critical role in the production of multiple-organ metastasis, predominantly by inhibiting the angiogenesis.

||The biological activity of Human FS was determined by its ability to neutralize Activin-induced bioactivity on K562 cells (erythroid differentiation). The expected ED50 for this effect is typically 0.1 - 0.4 μg/mL in the presence of 7.5 ng/mL of rhActivin A.
