| Description : |
Babesia parasites are obligate intraerythrocytic protozoa capable of invading a wide range of vertebrate hosts. Babesia microti has emerged as a new life-threatening zoonosis in the world causing a disease in humans and rodents. The infection is usually asymptomatic. However, immunocompromised and elder people may develop moderate to serious symptoms. Profilin is a soluble cytoplasmic protein that plays a key regulatory role in actin polymerization. It represents an essential component of all apicomplexan parasites, which helps the parasite to invade host cells using an actin-dependent gliding motility. |
