Description : This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate N- and C-terminal cleavage products that homodimerize and associate to form a biologically active noncovalent complex. This complex binds to the anti-Mullerian hormone receptor type 2 and causes the regression of Mullerian ducts in the male embryo that would otherwise differentiate into the uterus and fallopian tubes. This protein also plays a role in Leydig cell differentiation and function and follicular development in adult females. Mutations in this gene result in persistent Mullerian duct syndrome.

Ask a question
How does AMH interact with other hormones, such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or estrogen, in coordinating reproductive functions? 01/10/2021

AMH interacts with hormones like FSH and estrogen to modulate the balance between follicular development and follicle selection.

What are the genetic and epigenetic factors that influence AMH expression and its variations among individuals? 03/22/2020

AMH expression is influenced by genetic variations and epigenetic modifications that can contribute to inter-individual differences in AMH levels.

How does AMH influence the differentiation of Sertoli cells and the development of the male reproductive system? 04/16/2019

AMH inhibits the development of M眉llerian ducts in males, promoting the differentiation of Sertoli cells and the formation of the male reproductive system.

What are the functional consequences of AMH deficiency or overexpression on fertility and reproductive health? 02/19/2019

Deficiency or overexpression of AMH can lead to reproductive abnormalities, such as altered fertility, impaired gonadal development, or disorders of sexual differentiation.

What is the role of AMH in the regulation of female reproductive organ development and folliculogenesis? 11/20/2018

In females, AMH plays a role in regulating the regression of M眉llerian ducts and inhibiting follicular development.

Can modulating AMH signaling be a potential therapeutic strategy for infertility or reproductive disorders? 06/20/2018

Modulating AMH signaling pathways may hold therapeutic potential for infertility treatments and the management of reproductive disorders by manipulating follicular development or regulating reproductive organ development.

How does AMH contribute to the pathogenesis of reproductive disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or disorders of sexual development (DSD)? 05/03/2018

Dysregulation of AMH has been associated with reproductive disorders, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) characterized by increased AMH levels, and disorders of sexual development (DSD) associated with AMH deficiency or insensitivity.

Can AMH serve as a biomarker for assessing ovarian reserve or predicting ovarian response to fertility treatments? 12/28/2017

AMH levels can serve as a valuable biomarker for assessing ovarian reserve and predicting ovarian response to fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

How is AMH expression regulated during gonadal development and sex determination? 09/12/2017

AMH expression is tightly regulated during gonadal development and sex determination, primarily controlled by the transcription factors involved in testis development, such as SRY (Sex-determining Region Y) protein.

What are the downstream signaling pathways activated by AMH and their roles in reproductive organ development? 01/03/2017

AMH activates the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-尾) signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in regulating reproductive organ development and functions.
