Description : | This gene is a member of the cadherin superfamily, genes encoding calcium-dependent, membrane-associated glycoproteins. Mapped to a previously identified cluster of cadherin genes on chromosome 16q22.1, the gene localizes with superfamily members CDH1, CDH3, CDH5, CDH8 and CDH11. The protein consists of an extracellular domain containing 6 cadherin domains, a transmembrane region and a truncated cytoplasmic domain but lacks the prosequence and tripeptide HAV adhesion recognition sequence typical of most classical cadherins. Expression is exclusively in kidney, where the protein functions as the principal mediator of homotypic cellular recognition, playing a role in the morphogenic direction of tissue development. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. |

Ask a questionYes, transcription factors and signaling pathways have been identified to be involved in the regulation of CDH16 protein expression, which regulate the expression level and function of CDH16 protein.
Some studies suggest that the level of CDH16 protein expression in tubular disease may be prognostic. However, the specific mechanisms need to be further studied to confirm.
Yes, genetic mutations associated with the CDH16 protein have been identified that may affect the expression level or function of the CDH16 protein.
Yes, proteins that interact with the CDH16 protein have been found, including other cell adhesion molecules, signal transduction proteins, etc. These interactions may regulate the function and expression of the CDH16 protein.
Post-translational modifications of the CDH16 protein can affect its function. For example, modifications such as phosphorylation and methylation can regulate the activity and stability of CDH16 protein.
The CDH16 protein plays an important role in cell migration. It is involved in regulating intercellular adhesion and the formation of extracellular matrix, and has a regulatory effect on cell migration and transfer.
