| Description : |
Alpha-enolase (ENO1) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It functions as a homodimer and is one of three enolase isoenzymes in mammals (alpha, beta, gamma). Beyond glycolysis, ENO1 also acts as a structural lens protein (tau-crystallin), a plasminogen receptor, and a transcriptional repressor (MBP-1 isoform) of the c-myc promoter. It plays roles in growth regulation, hypoxia tolerance, allergic responses, and fibrinolysis. |
