Description : Key regulator of ligase activity of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), which confers substrate specificity upon the complex. Associates with the APC/C in late mitosis, in replacent of CDC20, and activates the APC/C during anaphase and telophase. The APC/C rains active in degrading substrates to ensure that positive regulators of the cell cycle do not accumulate praturely. At the G1/S transition FZR1 is phosphorylated, leading to its dissociation from the APC/C. Following DNA damage, it is required for the G2 DNA damage checkpoint: its dephosphorylation and reassociation with the APC/C leads to the ubiquitination of PLK1, preventing entry into mitosis.

        Ask a question
What is the function of FZR1 protein in the cell cycle? 10/06/2019

FZR1 protein plays a negative regulatory role in the cell cycle and is involved in mitosis and post-mitosis.

Why does knocking out FZR1 affect the cell cycle? 09/11/2019

This protein knockdown can lead to the disturbance of cell cycle regulation and affect the mitosis and post-mitosis of cells.

What are the post-translational modifications of FZR1 protein? 09/09/2019

FZR1 protein can undergo post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and ubiquitination.

Which cyclins does the FZR1 protein interact with? 08/17/2019

This protein interacts with CDK1 (Cyclin-dependent kinase 1) and APC/C (Anaphase Promoting Complex/Cyclosome) protein complexes.

What is the expression pattern of FZR1 protein? 07/21/2019

The expression of FZR1 protein fluctuated during the cell cycle and was highly expressed in the late mitotic period.

Why does phosphorylation of FZR1 protein affect its function? 07/15/2019

The phosphorylation of FZR1 protein can regulate its interaction with other proteins and affect its function.
