• Description: Polypeptide N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase-Like Protein 2 (GALNTL2) belongs to the Glycosyltransferase 2 family and GalNAc-T subfamily. GALNTL2 is a single-pass type II membrane protein and it is highly expressed in the small intestine, placenta, spleen, cerebral cortex, and ovary. GALNTL2 consists of two conserved domains in the glycosyltransferase region: the N-terminal GT1 motif, which is probably involved in manganese coordination and substrate binding and the C-terminal Gal/GalNAc-T motif, which is probably involved in catalytic reaction and UDP-Gal binding. GALNTL2 takes part in the protein modification and protein glycosylation procrss and catalyzes the initial reaction in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis.
