Description : This gene encodes a widely expressed transmembrane glycoprotein that plays important roles in diverse physiological processes such as regulation of hair pigmentation, monocyte-T cell interaction and control of energy homeostasis. The encoded preproprotein undergoes proteolytic processing to generate a mature, functional protein. Certain mutations in this gene are responsible for the mahogany mouse phenotype of dark brown or black coat on a normally agouti background. Mice with loss-of-function mutations in this gene exhibit black coat color, tremor, adiposity, higher basal metabolic rate, juvenile-onset hypomyelination and age-dependent spongiform neurodegeneration of the central nervous system.

Ask a question
What diseases or symptoms can be caused by ATRN mutations? 04/18/2022

ATRN gene mutations may lead to hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia and other diseases. The main features of the disease include telangiectasia on the skin and mucosa, epistaxis, and bleeding in internal organs.

Are there other genes that interact with the ATRN gene? 06/11/2021

Yes, the ATRN gene may interact with other genes involved in the regulation of cell development and function, such as the Netrin-1 gene in nervous system development. These interactions may affect the function and regulatory network of ATRN genes.

Is the ATRN gene regulated? 05/19/2021

Yes, ATRN gene expression is affected by a variety of regulatory factors, including binding of transcription factors, activation of signaling pathways, etc. These regulatory mechanisms ensure the adaptability and stability of the ATRN gene.

Is ATRN gene associated with cancer? 08/08/2020

At present, no direct association between ATRN gene and cancer has been found. However, the regulatory role of ATRN genes in cell proliferation and differentiation may be indirectly related to tumorigenesis and progression.

What is the expression pattern of ATRN gene? 07/15/2020

The ATRN gene is widely expressed in the human body, but its expression level may vary in different tissues and organs. Its expression is higher in brain, retina, kidney and other tissues.

What progress has been made in the research of ATRN gene? 01/10/2019

The research on ATRN gene mainly focuses on the analysis of its structure and function, the exploration of its regulatory mechanism, and the relationship with genetic diseases. So far, several important findings have been made regarding the function and regulation of ATRN genes.
