• Description: This gene encodes a member of the contactin family of proteins, part of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules. The encoded glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored neuronal membrane protein plays a role in the proliferation, migration, and axon guidance of neurons of the developing cerebellum. Mice lacking a functional copy of this gene exhibit epileptic seizures and elevated expression of A1 adenosine receptors.
• Bio-activity: Measured by its ability to enhance neurite outgrowth of E16-E18 rat embryonic cortical neurons. Able to significantly enhance neurite outgrowth when immobilized at 6-25 μg/mL on a nitrocellulose-coated microplate.
