Description : Cell surface glycoprotein receptor involved in the costimulatory signal essential for T-cell receptor (TCR)-mediated T-cell activation. Acts as a positive regulator of T-cell coactivation, by binding at least ADA, CAV1, IGF2R, and PTPRC. Its binding to CAV1 and CARD11 induces T-cell proliferation and NF-kappa-B activation in a T-cell receptor/CD3-dependent manner. Its interaction with ADA also regulates lymphocyte-epithelial cell adhesion. In association with FAP is involved in the pericellular proteolysis of the extracellular matrix (ECM), the migration and invasion of endothelial cells into the ECM. May be involved in the promotion of lymphatic endothelial cells adhesion, migration and tube formation. When overexpressed, enhanced cell proliferation, a process inhibited by GPC3. Acts also as a serine exopeptidase with a dipeptidyl peptidase activity that regulates various physiological processes by cleaving peptides in the circulation, including many chemokines, mitogenic growth factors, neuropeptides and peptide hormones. Removes N-terminal dipeptides sequentially from polypeptides having unsubstituted N-termini provided that the penultimate residue is proline.

        Q&As (5)

        Ask a question
How does DPP4 relate to diabetes? 04/17/2023

DPP4 plays a crucial role in glucose homeostasis by cleaving incretin hormones. In diabetes, inhibiting DPP4 can enhance the action of these hormones, promoting insulin release and lowering blood sugar levels.

Are there any side effects associated with DPP4 inhibitors? 01/11/2022

Common side effects of DPP4 inhibitors include respiratory and urinary tract infections, headache, and nasopharyngitis. However, they are generally well-tolerated.

What clinical applications does DPP4 have in managing type 2 diabetes? 06/12/2020

Inhibitors of DPP4 are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control. They work by prolonging the activity of incretin hormones, such as GLP-1, which stimulate insulin secretion.

Can DPP4 inhibitors be used as a monotherapy for diabetes? 03/10/2020

DPP4 inhibitors are often used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications to achieve optimal glycemic control.

How do DPP4 inhibitors differ from other diabetes medications? 06/11/2016

DPP4 inhibitors work by enhancing the effects of incretin hormones, while other diabetes medications may act on insulin sensitivity, insulin release, or glucose absorption.
