Description : | This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate each subunit of the disulfide-linked homodimer. This protein plays a role in the development of the nervous and other organ systems, and may regulate aging. Mice lacking a functional copy of this gene exhibit impaired anteroposterior patterning and other developmental defects. |

Q&As (6)
Ask a questionThe protein can be used to treat some diseases through stem cell therapy, such as using the promoter of GDF11 to activate the self-renewal and regenerative ability of stem cells.
GDF11 protein can be used as a therapeutic target for a variety of diseases such as muscular dystrophy, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative diseases.
GDF11 protein inhibits the differentiation of well-developed chondrocytes in bone growth plates into osteoblasts, thereby inhibiting bone growth.
The GDF11 protein can be intervened by means of drugs, such as using soluble GDF11 receptors to increase the activity of the GDF11 signaling pathway.
In young animals, GDF11 promotes muscle growth, but in older adults and mice, its effect is not significant.
This protein promotes the production and growth of neuroblasts and also plays an important role in the differentiation and function of neural stem cells.
Customer Reviews (3)
Write a reviewThe repeatability of GDF11 is very good, which can ensure the reliability of the experimental results, and also facilitate the subsequent research and application.
After using GDF11, my experimental results are more stable and reliable, and also convenient for subsequent data analysis.
The band intensity of GDF11 in Western blot was high, which improved the signal-to-noise ratio of the experiment.
