Plat is a secreted serine protease whichconverts the proenzyme Plasminogen to the fibrinolytic enzyme Plasmin. Plat is synthesized as a single chain which is cleaved byPlasmin to a two chain disulfide linked protein. This enzyme plays a role incell migration and tissue remodeling. Increased enzymatic activity causeshyperfibrinolysis, which manifests as excessive bleeding; decreased activityleads to hypofibrinolysis which can result in thrombosis or embolism.
