Description : | FABP1 (Fatty acid binding protein1) encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver. FABP1 is composed of ten antiparallel β strands that form a barrel with a bigger binding pocket than the other FABPs allowing it to accommodate two fatty acid. This protein binds free fatty acids and their coenzyme A derivatives, bilirubin, and some other small molecules in the cytoplasm; it may be involved in intracellular lipid transport and metabolism. |

Q&As (5)
Ask a questionElevated levels of FABP1 are associated with metabolic disorders like obesity and insulin resistance, making it a potential indicator for these conditions.
FABP1 binds to fatty acids, facilitating their transport and metabolism within liver cells.
While predominantly found in the liver, FABP1 is also expressed in the small intestine and kidney.
Yes, elevated FABP1 levels in blood or urine may indicate early stages of liver damage, enabling early intervention.
Genetic variations may contribute to differences in FABP1 expression, impacting an individual's susceptibility to certain diseases.
