Description : Hemopexin binds heme with the highest affinity of any known protein. Its performs functions in scavenging the heme released or lost by the turnover of heme proteins such as hemoglobin, thus protects the body from the oxidative damage that free heme can cause. In addition, hemopexin releases its bound ligand for internalisation upon interacting with a specific receptor situated on the surface of liver cells, thus implicated in preservation of the body"s iron. High hemopexin levels indicate that there has been significant degradation of heme containing compounds and hemopexin is made to scavenge any heme it can, and high hemopexin levels are therefore one of the diagnostic features of a hemolytic anemia.

the manufacturer offers a wide range of HPX protein variants, including recombinant or native forms, as well as different conjugates and modifications.

    02/02/2018

As a researcher using HPX protein, I have found numerous advantages in its application during trials for various experimental purposes.

      08/15/2017

the HPX protein is known for its strong affinity for phospholipids, particularly phosphatidylserine (PS), on the outer leaflet of cell membranes.

        Q&As (5)

        Ask a question
Can HPX be used as a diagnostic marker for hemolytic disorders? 03/08/2022

Yes, low levels of HPX in the blood can be an indicator of hemolytic disorders.

How is HPX involved in managing heme in the body? 10/27/2021

HPX binds to free heme released from hemoglobin, preventing its toxic effects and aiding in its clearance.

How does HPX contribute to the prevention of heme-related toxicity? 04/07/2021

HPX binds to heme, preventing its oxidative and inflammatory damage to tissues and organs.

What clinical conditions are associated with heme release, making HPX relevant? 06/10/2018

Hemolysis, hemoglobinopathies, and various types of anemias can lead to heme release, highlighting the clinical relevance of HPX.

How is HPX regulated in the body, and can its levels be influenced by medications? 12/16/2017

HPX levels can be influenced by various factors, including inflammation and medications like glucocorticoids.
