||Tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin-like and EGF-like domains 2 (Tie-2) are novel endothelial cell tyrosine kinase receptors that are essential for vascular development and remodeling in the embryo. They are expressed almost exclusively in endothelial cells. Tie-2 is functional in pericytes and may play an important role in the progression of diabetic retinopathy, by regulating pericyte loss and influencing the activation state and recruitment of pericytes. Tie has been shown to be up-regulated in psoriasis and in breast cancer tissue and blocking Tie2 action inhibits tumor angiogenesis and tumor growth.
