Description : | Collagen, a major component of the extracellular matrix, is a fibrous protein that provides tensile strength to tissues giving them structural integrity. Collagen and its derivative, gelatin, have been widely used in medical, pharmaceutical and consumer products for more than 100 years. Products that contain animal-derived collagen can induce potentially harmful inflammatory or immune responses in humans and pose risk of contamination with viruses or prions, potentially life-threatening pathogens. Recombinant collagens are essentially identical to the native collagen protein thereby reducing the risk of inflammation, immune response, and disease as compared to animal-sourced collagen. |

Ask a questionUnderstanding the specific genetic and protein alterations in vEDS patients can help tailor individualized treatment strategies based on the patient's unique molecular profile.
Yes, analysis of COL3A1 protein levels in prenatal samples may provide valuable information for assessing the risk of vEDS in the developing fetus.
Elevated or decreased levels of COL3A1 protein may serve as potential biomarkers for early detection and risk assessment of vEDS, especially in at-risk individuals or families.
Challenges include the need for standardized assays and reference ranges for COL3A1 protein levels, as well as the interpretation of results in the context of individual patient variability.
Yes, monitoring changes in COL3A1 protein levels may provide insights into disease progression and response to treatment in vEDS patients.
