Description : | Acid phosphatases are enzymes capable of hydrolyzing orthophosphoric acid esters in an acid medium. This gene is up-regulated by androgens and is down-regulated by estrogens in the prostate cancer cell line. This gene exhibits a lower level of expression in testicular cancer tissues than in normal tissues. The protein encoded by this gene has structural similarity to prostatic and lysosomal acid phosphatases. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

Q&As (10)
Ask a questionThe catalytic mechanism of ACPT involves the activation of a serine residue, which acts as a nucleophile to cleave phosphate ester bonds.
Post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation have been shown to regulate the activity of ACPT.
The ACPT protein has been investigated as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of prostate cancer, as well as for the development of male contraceptives. However, further research is needed to determine the clinical utility of targeting ACPT.
The ACPT gene is primarily expressed in the testis, with lower levels of expression observed in the prostate gland.
ACPT has been shown to be overexpressed in certain types of cancer, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer, and may play a role in cancer cell growth and survival.
The ACPT gene is primarily expressed in the testis and plays a role in the regulation of spermatogenesis.
The protein product of the ACPT gene is the acid phosphatase, testicular isoform, which is an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphomonoesters at an acidic pH.
The promoter region of the ACPT gene is a sequence of DNA that regulates the transcription of the gene by binding to transcription factors.
There are currently no known drugs that target the ACPT gene. However, further research into the function and regulation of the ACPT gene could lead to the development of novel therapeutic interventions in the future.
Genetic variations such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and copy number variations (CNVs) have been identified in the ACPT gene and may contribute to variations in enzyme activity and disease susceptibility.
