Description : The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing (ASB) family of proteins. They contain ankyrin repeat sequence and SOCS box domain. The SOCS box serves to couple suppressor of cytokine signalling (SOCS) proteins and their binding partners with the elongin B and C complex, possibly targeting them for degradation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene but their full length sequences are not known. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Ask a question
Are there any known binding partners of the ASB5 protein? 06/14/2022

ASB5 can interact with different proteins, including ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing protein 10 (ASB10), which can modulate ASB5 activity in muscle development.

Are there any known genetic mutations or polymorphisms in the ASB5 gene? 05/29/2022

Yes, several genetic variations in the ASB5 gene have been identified. Some of these variations are associated with muscle-related disorders and cardiac abnormalities.

Does ASB5 have a role in neurodevelopment or neurological disorders? 03/08/2020

While ASB5's role in neurodevelopment or neurological disorders is not extensively studied, it may play a part in neuronal differentiation and function. Further research is required to determine its implications in neurological conditions.

Can ASB5 be involved in the regulation of muscle development? 01/08/2019

Yes, studies have shown that ASB5 is important for muscle development and differentiation, particularly in the formation of skeletal muscle fibers.

Are there any diseases or disorders associated with altered ASB5 expression or function? 12/09/2018

Altered ASB5 expression or function has been observed in various conditions, including myopathies, neuropathies, and cardiac diseases. However, further research is needed to fully understand the extent of its involvement in these disorders.

Is ASB5 involved in any other cellular processes or pathways? 11/28/2017

While ASB5 is primarily known for its role in muscle development and protein degradation, it may also participate in other processes, such as cell proliferation and differentiation.

Does ASB5 play a role in cardiac function or disease? 07/24/2016

Yes, ASB5 has been implicated in cardiac diseases, including dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure. It may contribute to the degradation of specific proteins involved in cardiac muscle contraction.

Can ASB5 expression be regulated by other factors or signaling pathways? 06/25/2016

Yes, ASB5 expression can be regulated by signaling pathways involved in muscle development, such as the Notch signaling pathway.
