Description : | Carbonic anhydrases are a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They participate in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. They show extensive diversity in tissue distribution and in their subcellular localization. The cytosolic protein encoded by this gene is predominantly expressed in the brain and contributes to bicarbonate driven GABAergic neuron excitation. Alternative splicing in the coding region results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionCA7 facilitates the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, but its specific kinetics might differ from other isoforms.
CA7 aids in CO2 transport and pH regulation, playing a crucial role in metabolic processes.
Dysregulation or mutations in CA7 might influence metabolic balance in tissues, potentially impacting conditions related to liver function or metabolism.
While some general carbonic anhydrase inhibitors might affect CA7, isoform-specific inhibitors would require further research.
CA7 is primarily expressed in the liver, among other tissues.
Potential modifications like phosphorylation or acetylation can be identified using techniques like mass spectrometry.
Specific mutations could alter CA7's enzyme kinetics or stability, requiring in vitro functional assays for verification.
