Description : The protein encoded by this gene is the receptor for colony stimulating factor 1, a cytokine which controls the production, differentiation, and function of macrophages. This receptor mediates most if not all of the biological effects of this cytokine. Ligand binding activates the receptor kinase through a process of oligomerization and transphosphorylation. The encoded protein is a tyrosine kinase transmembrane receptor and member of the CSF1/PDGF receptor family of tyrosine-protein kinases. Mutations in this gene have been associated with a predisposition to myeloid malignancy. The first intron of this gene contains a transcriptionally inactive ribosomal protein L7 processed pseudogene oriented in the opposite direction. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Expression of a splice variant from an LTR promoter has been found in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), HL cell lines and anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

        Q&As (5)

        Ask a question
Are there any FDA-approved drugs targeting CSF1R for clinical use? 07/20/2021

Yes, drugs like pexidartinib have been approved for the treatment of certain rare tumors called tenosynovial giant cell tumors (TGCT) that overexpress CSF1R.

How can CSF1R inhibitors impact the tumor microenvironment? 10/22/2018

CSF1R inhibitors can modulate the tumor microenvironment by reducing the number of tumor-associated macrophages and promoting an anti-tumor immune response.

Can CSF1R inhibitors be used in combination with other cancer treatments? 09/20/2018

Yes, CSF1R inhibitors are often used in combination with chemotherapy and immunotherapy to enhance treatment effectiveness.

What are the potential clinical applications of CSF1R inhibitors? 01/21/2017

CSF1R inhibitors are being investigated for cancer therapy to block tumor-promoting macrophages and slow down cancer progression.

Can CSF1R inhibitors be used to treat neurodegenerative diseases? 12/04/2016

Research is ongoing, and CSF1R inhibitors are being explored as a potential therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, but no FDA-approved treatments currently exist.
