Description : This gene encodes a member of the tyrosine kinase and, more specifically, the Janus kinases (JAKs) protein families. This protein associates with the cytoplasmic domain of type I and type II cytokine receptors and promulgate cytokine signals by phosphorylating receptor subunits. It is also component of both the type I and type III interferon signaling pathways. As such, it may play a role in anti-viral immunity. A mutation in this gene has been associated with hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (HIES) - a primary immunodeficiency characterized by elevated serum immunoglobulin E.

        Ask a question
Could TYK2 inhibitors have applications beyond autoimmune diseases? 05/14/2022

Yes, TYK2 inhibitors might have potential in treating certain cancers and possibly other inflammatory conditions beyond autoimmune diseases.

What are the potential benefits of targeting TYK2 in treating autoimmune diseases? 02/09/2021

TYK2 inhibition can potentially reduce inflammation and modulate immune responses without suppressing the entire immune system, unlike some other treatments.

Are there any clinical trials ongoing or completed regarding TYK2 inhibitors? 05/10/2020

Yes, there are several clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of TYK2 inhibitors in various autoimmune diseases.

How do TYK2 inhibitors differ from other treatments for autoimmune diseases? 01/31/2018

TYK2 inhibitors are more targeted, aiming to interfere with specific signaling pathways involved in the immune response compared to broad immunosuppressants.

How are TYK2 inhibitors administered to patients? 11/17/2017

Depending on the formulation, TYK2 inhibitors can be administered orally or through injections.
