| Description : | Covalent binding of ubiquitin to other proteins is one of the most frequent posttranslational modifiations. This covalent attachment can be either as a monomer (monoubiquitin), a polymer linked via different Lys residues of the ubiquitin (polyubiquitin chains) or a linear polymer linked via the initiator Met of the ubiquitin (linear polyubiquitin chains). Conjugation of ubiquitin to its target protein can lead to various effects within a cell, including protein degradation, DNA repair, cell cycle regulation, kinase modification, endocytosis, and regulation of other cell signaling pathways. |
