Description : Functions in the early steps of protein synthesis by forming a ternary complex with GTP and initiator tRNA. This complex binds to a 40S ribosomal subunit, followed by mRNA binding to form a 43S pre-initiation complex. Junction of the 60S ribosomal subunit to form the 80S initiation complex is preceded by hydrolysis of the GTP bound to eIF-2 and release of an eIF-2-GDP binary complex. In order for eIF-2 to recycle and catalyze another round of initiation, the GDP bound to eIF-2 must exchange with GTP by way of a reaction catalyzed by eIF-2B. EIF2S1/eIF-2-alpha is a key component of the integrated stress response (ISR), required for adaptation to various stress: phosphorylation by metabolic-stress sensing protein kinases (EIF2AK1/HRI, EIF2AK2/PKR, EIF2AK3/PERK and EIF2AK4/GCN2) in response to stress converts EIF2S1/eIF-2-alpha in a global protein synthesis inhibitor, leading to a attenuation of cap-dependent translation, while concomitantly initiating the preferential translation of ISR-specific mRNAs, such as the transcriptional activator ATF4, and hence allowing ATF4-mediated reprogramming.

Ask a question
How is the expression of EIF2S1 regulated? 10/27/2022

The expression of EIF2S1 gene is affected by a variety of factors, including nutrients, growth factors, hormones, stress status, etc. Its expression regulation mainly occurs at the transcriptional level and the post-transcriptional level.

How does the EIF2S1 gene interact with RNA polymerase? 08/31/2021

The protein encoded by the EIF2S1 gene can bind to RNA polymerase to form a translation initiation complex, thus participating in the translation process of mRNA.

What is the main function of the EIF2S1 gene in cells? 08/21/2021

The protein encoded by the EIF2S1 gene is a subunit of the translation initiation factor eIF-2, which is involved in the initiation of the protein translation process in the cell.

What is the effect of EIF2S1 gene on apoptosis? 01/19/2021

Studies have shown that EIF2S1 gene may play an important role in the process of apoptosis, but its specific mechanism of action still needs further research.

What role does the EIF2S1 gene play in the cell cycle and cell differentiation? 07/21/2020

The EIF2S1 gene lays an important role in the cell cycle and cell differentiation, and is involved in the regulation of cell growth, division and differentiation.

Are there different subtypes or variants of the EIF2S1 gene? 01/08/2020

Yes, there are different isoforms or variants of the EIF2S1 gene, and these variants may have different functions and expression patterns.

09/17/2023

EIF2S1 was used to find high purity and no significant impurities.

    08/23/2023

It was observed that its expression level was high, which was able to meet the needs of the experiment.

      04/01/2021

Its stability is good, and there is no obvious change in the process of storage and transportation.
