Description : | Phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) phosphatase that specifically hydrolyzes the 5-phosphate of phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P3), phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2) and phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(3,5)P2). Specific for lipid substrates, inactive towards water soluble inositol phosphates. Specific for lipid substrates, inactive towards water soluble inositol phosphates. Plays an essential role in the primary cilium by controlling ciliary growth and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling and stability. |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionYes, partly through an AKT-dependent mechanism, the interaction between INPP5E and AURKA affects the downregulation of AURKA.
INPP5E plays a significant role in ciliary biology and is associated with ciliopathies like Joubert and MORM syndromes.
INPP5E's increased 5-phosphatase activity promotes transcriptional downregulation of AURKA.
INPP5E interacts with AURKA, a centrosomal kinase that regulates mitosis and ciliary disassembly.
This interaction establishes the first direct link between AURKA and phosphoinositide signaling.
The interaction between INPP5E and AURKA is crucial for maintaining the stability of primary cilia.
AURKA phosphorylates INPP5E, enhancing its 5-phosphatase activity.
