• Description: IL-6 is a multifunctional cytokine that has an important role in host defense by regulating immune and inflammatory responses. It is expressed by a variety of normal and transformed cells including T cells, B cells, monocytes/macrophages, fibroblasts and various tumor cells. IL-6 has diverse biological functions, it stimulates B-cell differentiation and antibody production, synergizes with IL-3 in megakaryocyte development and platelet production, induces expression of hepatic acute-phase proteins, and regulates bone metabolism.

• Bio-activity: Bioactivity is assayed by measuring the dose dependent effect of human IL-6 on proliferation of TF-1 cells. The ED50 for this batch of recombinant human IL-6 is 0.56 ng/ml, corresponding to 1.8 x 10E6 U/mg specific activity.
• Molecular Mass: Recombinant human IL-6 contains 185 amino acids and a 16 a.a. Histidine-based tag for a total length of 201 a.a. and has a predicted molecular mass of 23.1 kDa. As a result of glycosylation, the recombinant protein migrates with an apparent molecular mass of 27 kDa in SDS-PAGE.
• Endotoxin: Endotoxin level is less than 0.05EU/μg as measured by turbidimetric kinetic assay.
• Purity: >95% by SDS-PAGE gel analysis.
• Storage: The lyophilized protein is stable at room temperature for few weeks. Reconstituted protein should be used immediately or stored in working aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
• Reconstitution: It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized protein in sterile water to a concentration of no less than 100 μg/ml. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).
