Description: Amylases aresecreted proteins that hydrolyze 1,4-alpha-glucoside bonds inoligosaccharides and polysaccharides, and thus catalyze the first step indigestion of dietary starch and glycogen. The human genome has a cluster ofseveral amylase genes that are expressed at high levels in either salivarygland or pancreas. This gene encodes an amylase isoenzyme produced by thepancreas.
Form: Aqueous buffer of100 mM Tris-HCL+150 mM NaCl.

Biological Activity: Typically > 400Units/ml at 37 oC. One unit will catalyze thehydrolysis of one of malto pentaose, which through coupled reactions resultsin the formation of 5 of glucose-6-phosphate per minute at 37 oC.Measured at 340 nm as an equimolar amount of NADH produced by a coupledreaction.
Purity: > 95.0% asdetermined by RP-HPLC and SDS-PAGE analyses.
Storage: Liquid is stable for1 year at 2-4oC. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
