Description : This gene encodes the ligand of the tyrosine-kinase receptor encoded by the KIT locus. This ligand is a pleiotropic factor that acts in utero in germ cell and neural cell development, and hematopoiesis, all believed to reflect a role in cell migration. In adults, it functions pleiotropically, while mostly noted for its continued requirement in hematopoiesis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Source : E. coli
Species : Human
Bio-activity : Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF‑1 human erythroleukemic cells. The ED50 for this effect is 1-5 ng/mL.
Molecular Mass : Predicted Molecular Mass:18.6 kDa
SDS-PAGE: 19 kDa, reducing conditions.
Protein length : Glu26-Ala189, with an N-terminal Met
N-terminal Sequence Analysis : Met
Endotoxin : < 0.10 EU/μg of the protein by the LAL method.

Ask a question
How does KITLG influence stem cell factor (SCF) signaling pathways? 11/10/2022

Overexpression or mutations in KITLG and its receptor have been implicated in various cancers, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), mastocytosis, and certain leukemias.

What are the implications of KITLG in oncogenesis and tumor progression? 07/20/2022

Given its role in cell proliferation and differentiation, KITLG has been explored as a therapeutic agent in stem cell transplantation settings, and its pathway is a target in certain cancer treatments.

What role does KITLG play in melanogenesis and pigmentation? 01/17/2022

Dysregulation or mutations in KITLG have been associated with certain disorders like piebaldism, a genetic condition characterized by unpigmented patches of skin and hair.

Are there any known disorders associated with mutations or dysregulation of KITLG? 06/22/2020

Upon binding to c-KIT, KITLG activates the SCF signaling pathways, which include the MAPK, PI3K, and JAK/STAT pathways, influencing cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation.

What is the primary biological function of KITLG in the hematopoietic system? 04/12/2020

KITLG binds to the c-KIT receptor, a tyrosine kinase receptor, leading to its dimerization and autophosphorylation, which activates downstream signaling pathways.

How has KITLG been explored as a therapeutic target or agent in clinical settings? 02/10/2020

Given its role in cell proliferation and differentiation, KITLG has been explored as a therapeutic agent in stem cell transplantation settings, and its pathway is a target in certain cancer treatments.

How does KITLG interact with its receptor, c-KIT? 12/21/2019

KITLG and its receptor c-KIT are involved in melanogenesis. Their interaction regulates the proliferation and migration of melanocytes, influencing skin, hair, and eye pigmentation.
