Cat. No. : MMP1-407H
Description : Matrix metallopeptidase 1 (interstitial collagenase), also known as MMP1 is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP"s are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. MMP-1 is the only enzyme able to initiate breakdown of the interstitial collagens, collagen type 1, collagen type 2, and collagen type 3. MMP-1 plays an important role in diverse physiologic processes such as development, tissue morphogenesis, and wound repair. Expression of MMP-1 is a prognostic marker for hematogenous metastasis of colorectal cancer.

Ask a question
How does MMP1 relate to wound healing? 02/09/2023

MMP1 is involved in the remodeling of tissue during wound healing by facilitating the breakdown of damaged extracellular matrix components.

Are there therapeutic implications of targeting MMP1 in cancer treatment? 11/11/2022

Inhibiting MMP1 activity is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy to impede cancer progression and metastasis.

How does MMP1 contribute to tissue remodeling? 05/07/2020

MMP1 plays a key role in tissue remodeling by degrading collagen, a major component of the extracellular matrix, which is essential for processes like wound healing.

In what diseases is MMP1 overexpressed? 08/21/2017

MMP1 overexpression is associated with various diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, and certain types of cancer.

Can MMP1 be a biomarker for prognosis in cancer patients? 02/18/2017

High MMP1 levels have been correlated with poor prognosis in certain cancer types, making it a potential biomarker for predicting disease outcomes.
