Description: Osteoprotegerin (OPG), also known as osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor (OCIF) is a cytokine, which can inhibit osteoclast differentiation, activity, and survival. It is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. OPG may provide a pharmacological tool for osteoporotic and erosive bone disorders.

Biological Activity: The biological activity of Human OPG was determined by its ability to neutralize apoptosis of mouse L-929 cells treated with 20 ng/mL cross-linked soluble rhTRAIL. The expected ED50 for this effect is typically 8 - 24 ng/ml.
Molecular Weight: The predicted molecular weight of each monomer of mature OPG (generated after removal of a 21 amino acid signal peptide) is Mr 43.5 kDa. However, the actual molecular weight as observed by migration on SDS Page under reducing conditions, as a result of glycosylation, of recombinant Human OPG is Mr 55 kDa.
Formulation: This recombinant protein was 0.2 µm filtered and lyophilized from modified Dulbecco's phosphate buffered saline (1X PBS) pH 7.2 – 7.3 with no calcium, magnesium, or preservatives.
Storage And Stability: This lyophilized protein is stable for six to twelve months when stored desiccated at -20°C to -70°C. After aseptic reconstitution, this protein may be stored at 2°C to 8°C for one month or at -20°C to -70°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles.
