| Description : | Cystatin C is mainly used as a biomarker of kidney function. Recently, it has been studied for its role in predicting new-onset or deteriorating cardiovascular disease. It also seems to play a role in brain disorders involving amyloid. In humans, all cells with a nucleus (cell core containing the DNA) produce cystatin C as a chain of 120 amino acids. It is found in virtually all tissues and bodily fluids. It is a potent inhibitor of lysosomal proteinases and probably one of the most important extracellular inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Cystatin C belongs to the type 2 cystatin gene family. |
| Form : | Filtered (0,4 μm) and lyophilised from 0.6 mg/mL in 20mM NH4HCO3 with traces of buffer salts. |
| Research topic : | Renal disease |
| Purity : | >96% |
| Reconstitution : | Add 20mM NH4HCO3 to prepare a working stock solution of approximately 0.5 mg/mL. Product is not sterile! Please filter the product by an appropriate sterile filter before using it in the cell culture. |
| Applications : | Western blotting; ELISA |
| Quality Control Test : | BCA to determine quantity of the protein; SDS PAGE to determine purity of the protein |
| Storage : | Store lyophilized protein at -20°C. Lyophilized protein remains stable until the expiry date when stored at -20°C. Aliquot reconstituted protein to avoid repeated freezing/thawing cycles and store at -80°C for long term storage. Reconstituted protein can be stored at 4°C for a limited period of time; it does not show any change after one week at 4°C. |
| Pathways : | Salivary secretion |
