• Description: HBsAg is a surface antigen for Hepatitis B virus of subtype Ay (HbsAg-Ay) of the Hepatitis-B-Virus (HBV). The capsid of a virus has different surface proteins from the rest of the virus. The antigen is a protein that binds specifically on one of these surface proteins. It is commonly referred to as the Australian Antigen.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) expresses three types of surface antigens, i.e. S-, M-, and L-protein. L-protein is composed of S-, Pre-S2, and Pre-S1 region. The deletion of Pre-S1 region forms M-protein and further deletion of Pre-S2 region results in S-protein. As the sequence of the below antigens is confidential, we cannot tell that if they are L, M, or S versions.
