• Description: Peroxides in the cell can form highly reactive and damaging free radicals. Glutathione peroxidase (GPO) is a selenoenzyme with peroxidase activity, whose main biological purpose is the elimination of reactive oxygen species to protect the cell.
• Form: Frozen in 4.3mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.0, containing 0.2mM DTT and sucrose at 0.25 mg/ml.
• Unit Definition: One unit will catalyse oxidation by Hydrogen Peroxide of 1.0 micromole of reduced glutathione to oxidised glutathione per minute at pH 7.0 at 25°C.
• Concentration: >30 U/mg
• Reconstitution: Use of a 0.1M sodium acetate buffer pH 4.5 is recommended.
