Description : This gene encodes a member of the disulfide isomerase (PDI) family of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) proteins that catalyze protein folding and thiol-disulfide interchange reactions. The encoded protein has an N-terminal ER-signal sequence, a catalytically active thioredoxin domain, and a C-terminal ER-retention sequence. This gene is expressed in ciliated airway epithelial cells and, in mouse, plays a role in ciliary beat frequency in multiciliated cells. This gene is also over-expressed in breast, ovarian, and prostrate cancers.

Ask a question
How can the interaction partners of AGR3 be identified in the laboratory? 02/19/2022

The interaction partners of AGR3 can be identified using techniques such as co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), yeast two-hybrid assays, or proximity-dependent biotin identification (BioID).

How does AGR3 contribute to cancer development? 06/02/2021

AGR3 is thought to promote cancer cell survival, proliferation, and metastasis by modulating cellular signaling pathways and interacting with other proteins involved in cancer progression.

What are the molecular mechanisms underlying AGR3's role in cancer? 01/31/2021

The exact mechanisms are still being elucidated, but AGR3 has been shown to interact with proteins involved in cell adhesion, invasion, and apoptosis, contributing to cancer phenotypes.

What are the recommended storage conditions for AGR3 protein samples in the laboratory? 01/28/2021

AGR3 protein samples should be stored at -80°C to maintain their stability and prevent degradation. It is advisable to aliquot the protein to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

What are the common techniques used to purify AGR3 protein in the laboratory? 08/10/2020

The purification of AGR3 protein can be achieved through techniques such as affinity chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, or ion-exchange chromatography.

What is the relationship between AGR3 and androgen signaling in prostate cancer? 10/05/2019

AGR3 expression is regulated by androgen receptor signaling in prostate cancer cells, and it may play a role in mediating androgen-dependent growth and survival.

Can AGR3 be targeted for therapeutic interventions? 08/12/2019

Targeting AGR3 is an area of active research, and potential strategies such as small molecule inhibitors or immunotherapies are being explored for therapeutic interventions.

How can AGR3 expression be measured in experimental studies? 02/23/2019

AGR3 expression can be detected and quantified using techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunoblotting, and molecular assays like quantitative PCR (qPCR) or RNA sequencing.

Are there any animal models available to study AGR3 function? 01/14/2019

Limited animal models, such as mouse models, have been utilized to study AGR3 function in specific tissues or diseases, providing insights into its physiological roles.

Does AGR3 have any extracellular functions? 04/12/2018

Similar to AGR2, AGR3 can be secreted into the extracellular space, where it may interact with other proteins and potentially influence cell signaling and behavior.
