Description : The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT protein family. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by the receptor associated kinases, and then form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the cell nucleus where they act as transcription activators. The protein encoded by this gene can be activated by various ligands including interferon-alpha, interferon-gamma, EGF, PDGF and IL6. This protein mediates the expression of a variety of genes, which is thought to be important for cell viability in response to different cell stimuli and pathogens. The protein plays an important role in immune responses to viral, fungal and mycobacterial pathogens. Mutations in this gene are associated with Immunodeficiency 31B, 31A, and 31C.

        Q&As (6)

        Ask a question
What is the function of the STAT1 protein? 12/23/2019

STAT1 is a signal transduction and transcriptional activator involved in regulating a variety of biological processes such as cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, and immune response.

Are mutations in genes associated with the STAT1 protein related to human disease? 09/21/2019

Mutations in the STAT1 gene have been found to be associated with a variety of diseases, including autoimmune diseases, primary immunodeficiency diseases, and malignant tumors.

What is the signaling pathway of STAT1 protein in immune cells? 09/01/2019

The STAT1 protein is primarily activated by the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. When activated by the receptor, JAK kinase phosphorylates the STAT1 protein, allowing it to form dimers and enter the nucleus to regulate transcription of related genes.

In which diseases does the STAT1 protein play an important role in the development of diseases? 07/16/2019

The STAT1 protein plays an important role in many diseases, including tumors, immune-related diseases (such as immunodeficiency diseases, autoimmune diseases), infectious diseases (such as viral infections), etc.

Are there activators or inhibitors of the STAT1 protein? 06/19/2019

Some activators or inhibitors of the STAT1 protein have been identified. These compounds can be used to study the function of the STAT1 protein and the development of disease treatments.

Is the STAT1 protein involved in the immune response to viral infection? 02/24/2019

The STAT1 protein plays an important role in viral infection. It mediates interferon signaling, promotes antiviral immune responses, and inhibits viral replication and transmission.
